Islands Archives is operated by Islands Historical Society and focuses on the social history and family genealogies particular to Long and Brier Islands. Our information pertains primarily to the Loyalist families who arrived in our area after 1783. The collection includes photographs, taped interviews and textual records relating to the Islands’ families work and social lives.Numerous store ledgers from past businesses as well as records of fraternal organizations, such as the Macabees, Foresters, and Rebekahs are held, in addition to published and manuscript form genealogies. Scrapbooks, dating from the 1880s to 2000 are available as well as sea charts and maps. Genealogy records include information for local families such as Welch, Outhouse, Pugh, Stevens, Teed, Ruggles, Prime, Titus, Haines, Payson, Bowers, Collins, Coggins, Denton and others. Original issues of “The Tiny Tattler”, [1933-1934, 1936-1943] famous as the world’s smallest newspaper, as well as “The Freeport Gazette” are available, as well as our current local paper, Passages [1999-current day] are available.

Wednesday: 1-4 p.m.

July and August
Tuesday to Saturday 9 am -5 pm

Research fees

$5. Per day, photocopies 15 cents each
Reprints from our collection of photographs are available.
Research can be done by trained volunteers at an hourly rate. Please contact us for current fees.

Local history books and CDs are available for sale.

Visit Islands Museum located in Tiverton at 3083 Highway 217, approximately one mile from the Tiverton ferry landing, open from June to September.
