General Information

Our Genealogy Department has extensive holdings for Digby Town and County including family genealogies, community and county histories, information on over one thousand (1000) Digby County Surnames and printed pedigrees. We house a large collection of books and files on topics such as Fishing, Churches, Loyalists, Black History, Mi’kmaq, Acadian and Shipping. We also have many Scrapbooks, some Journals & Diaries, maps including the 1864 Digby County Church Map, Funeral Home Records, numerous Cemetery Inscriptions and much, much more!

Two microfilm readers (one with printing capabilities), a microfiche reader, a photocopier and two computers for viewing our collection of resource CD’s are available. Our microfilm collection consists of Church Records (Saint Peter’s, Weymouth & Trinity Anglican, Digby), Nova Scotia Vital Statistics, the Digby Courier (1877-1978); Weymouth Free Press (1901-1904), Bear River News (1897-1909), Digby County Census (1861-1901), Administration Testamentary Petitions Decrees (1842-1862), Alfred William Savary (1831-1920), Descendants of Thomas Dakin of concord, Massachusetts, New Englanders in Nova Scoita, Biographical Data of Sussex, New Brunswick & Biographical Notes on Digby Area and John Morehouse & Family (1784-1901). Microfiche records consist of the Titus papers. Our collection of government records include Digby Township books, some County Municipal Records, Land Grant Maps, Deeds, Index of Probate (1803-1944), Wills (1810-1837; 1860-1885; 1886-1917), School Registers, Nova Scotia Vital Statistics from Newspapers (1769-1856) and Deaths, Burials and Probate of Nova Scotians (1800-1850).
